FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRESS RELEASE - A fresh release from Fresh Attitude...
A Portslade Community College, Young Enterprise company are causing a buzz with their cool new products.
Fresh Attitude, a young enterprise company, are a small group of 14 and 15 year olds (Year 10) from PCC. In the autumn 2009, they set up the company and decided to design and produce a range of cool lifestyle products.
Megan Greenhalf (age 15), the MD says "We sat there and brainstormed what we wanted to produce. It was a unanimous YES for a range of hoodies, the question was, what do we print on them".
Marketing Manager, Palisa Chipendo (age 15) says "We wanted something printed on the hoodies, which our potential customers would think was cool, and would represent where we're all from. The first suggestion was the word ‘Portslade'. We thought about it for a minute, then decided, although we're all very proud of our school, it wouldn't be the coolest of words to wear across your chest."
Hayley Hodges (age 14), HR Director continued "No, but the word ‘Brighton' is. Which ever part of Brighton we come from, it's Brighton we're really proud of, so Palisa sketched some logo's, swishing over the chest of the hoodies, it looked awesome".
Palisa explained "Take a cool, superb quality hoodie available in 45 vibrant colours, print the word ‘Brighton' across it, in a funky style and you've got a winner on your hands. A must purchase for all proud Brightonians, and a tempting acquisition for nostalgic tourists. We have even sold a couple of hoodies and some teeshirts, to American customers, on our website."
The group recently launched the company to the public, at the Holmbush Shopping Centre on Sunday 7th February, along with several other Young Enterprise companies from other schools across Brighton and Hove. The Mayoress of Brighton attended, and promised to buy a hoodie. "She loved them, but we're yet to receive her order, although she did say she'd put up some posters all round the town hall. " Smiles Megan.
Raghda (Age 15), Sales Director says "Initially we looked at just sticking to one type of hoodie, the idea was to have the printed logo in a complimentary colour to one of 6 coloured garments. We had some samples made, to help us promote the product to sell, but we found that people wanted to make their own minds up, our chosen 'red' or 'blue' wasn't right for some people - so rather than force them to have a certain colour, we tweaked the way we printed them, in turn, increasing our profit margin. And now, are able to offer our basic 'college' hoodie in over 40 exciting colours, with a choice of 2 logo colourways."
"Through our research, we also realised that we could potentially sell more units, if we also supplied additional products, like teeshirts, so we have, and because we are at school, a lot of our family and friends and target market have young people around them, therefore, we decided to cater for kids too. Our teeshirts for kids are fantastic value, from just £8. In fact all our products are great value - we can afford to do this, because we are not greedy and our overheads are very low. You could expect to pay in the region of £45 for our 'street' hoodie on the high street."

Young Enterprise is a business initiative which has been going on in schools for years. This year is Portslade Community College's first year. "The kids took over £400 in sales on Sunday, they were over the moon" Says Steve Popple, their Business Studies Teacher.
The Young Enterprise company team, are assisted by local business man, Jim Cunliffe. "I visit the guys every week, just one hour. We discuss what they've spent the week doing, and where to direct things over the next few weeks. It's great to see how the kids have embraced the business, and integrated social media into their marketing mix".
